About a week ago I posted a survey on Frankfurt School’s Instagram page, asking what you would like to know about studying at Frankfurt School as a Bachelor student and living in Frankfurt. I also had many questions before starting my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at Frankfurt School, so I thought it would be helpful if I answered some of the questions and told you a bit about my experience at Frankfurt School. As there were so many questions, I decided to summarise my responses in this blog post!
How is studying in Frankfurt?
Frankfurt is a very international and diverse city. From the nightlife, to restaurants from all different countries and a variety of leisure activities, you will never get bored!
Frankfurt is also Germanys financial hub which makes finding jobs and internships a lot easier.
Do you have time on the side of university to actually enjoy all the things Frankfurt has to offer? Can you work during your studies?
Yes, you do and yes you can! First of all, time management is a key factor, but you will always find some time to do things with your friends. Second, I myself study full-time and work 15 hours a week as a working student and I can keep up with university just fine. A lot of my fellow students also have part-time jobs besides their studies.
Is it possible to live in Frankfurt and participate in university activities without speaking German?
It’s totally fine to not speak German. Everyone at university speaks English and since English is taught in Germany as a second language from grade three onwards, most people on the streets will be able to communicate with you. You also have the opportunity to participate in German courses offered by FS.
How many lectures do you have per week and how long are they?
The answer to this question really depends on your timetable.. I usually have 6-7 lectures per week. One lecture lasts 3 hours with a 15 minute break in between. Sometimes I have two lectures a day and on rare occasions you can have the maximum of 3. I usually have one completely free day during the week, plus of course weekends.
When and how long are the semester breaks?
We have two breaks. The Winter break is from shortly before Christmas until the beginning of February. The summer break is 3 months, usually from the beginning of June until the beginning of September.
The three free months during the summer provides you with the perfect time to do an internship!
When do you have exams?
We actually have exams twice a semester, once in the middle of each semester, the “midterms” and once at the end of each semester, the “finals”.
What are the costs of living in Frankfurt?
Frankfurt is not the cheapest city, however you shouldn’t worry too much about it. What can be quite expensive are the rent prices and it can take some time to find a good apartment. Besides that, prices for food and entertainment related things like the cinema are pretty average for a big city. Usually as a student you will spend approximately 1000€ a month (including rent).
How is the Male & Female quote at Frankfurt School?
There are 30% female and 70% male students in our Bachelor Intake of 2018, with the female percentage growing over the last couple of years.
How many students are in a class?
Our classes at Frankfurt School are quite small. We’re usually 20-45 people in one lecture, which makes it feel like a school.
What is the price of getting into Frankfurt School?
The online application, as well as the assessment centre (AC), are free of charge. Once the university accepts you and you have signed the contract, you have to pay a non-refundable Enrolment fee of 100€.
How do you prepare for the AC/is it difficult?
The AC at Frankfurt School consist of a math,, analytical and a knowledge test, plus an interview. Before the AC we will send you an e-mail with further information and some tips on how to prepare. You can also find more information on our Website.
