Balancing work and study as a Master in Applied Data Science student
Why I decided to pursue my passion for Data Science
How the Master in Applied Data Science helped me advance my career

In May 2018 IE Business School and Frankfurt School of Finance & Management signed a strategic agreement to launch joint finance education initiatives. The agreement will enable students of both institutions to take part in semester exchange programmes and shorter study trips to the schools` Madrid and Frankfurt campuses including career and networking events as well as company visits in both locations.

As part of this agreement we (eleven MoF and MiM students) had the opportunity to visit IE Business School for a 3 day Short Exchange Fintech Programme. During this time we had 4 academic sessions with professors Ignacio de la Torre, Luis Maldonado and Alfonso de Leon. All the academic session where focused in Fintech and Blockchain.

As part of the exchange we visited BBVA (one of the most important banks in Spain and Latin-America). During the visit they had a conference about how the bank is incorporating Fintech and what is the strategy in the short term for Fintech. We also had the chance to make some networking for future career opportunities in the bank.

As you may know, not everything is hard work in FS, we also had some fun during our visit to Madrid. FS students got in touch with students from IE’s Masters in Finance programme and went to a Cultural Dinner & Flamenco show in the center of Madrid on Thursday night. For the last night in the city we visited the Real Madrid Stadium and had dinner in the Real Café Santiago Bernabe.

Two of the students that attended  the short exchange also shared their experience:

“FinTechs will radically change the banking business of the 21th century. With the emergence of AI, blockchain and cheap processing power this change is about to accelerate even faster. While – generally – costumers will profit largely from this boom, mature companies face new, agile competitors and a war for talents.

Together with other Master students from FS we went to IE Business School in Madrid to jointly discuss those developments. Overall, we had some fantastic presentations from highly interesting professors, private equity investors and business managers. Unfortunately, a tight schedule and IE students, eager to show us the nightlife in Madrid, lead to the impression that three days was far too short. But still, we had a fantastic academic and cultural short exchange in Madrid and we are really looking forward to meet our new Spanish friends here in Frankfurt.”

“I am very happy to be one of the few students who have participated to the Short Exchange initiative between IE Business School and Frankfurt School. I see the initiative as a strategic opportunity for us students to have broader horizons and opportunities. On a personal standpoint, I appreciate the exchange of vision and ideas that arised from academic sessions and activities during the time spent in Madrid. Most of all, broadening our network beyond Germany and getting in touch with other fellow students from a different university has been a great chance to experience multiple environments. I appreciate all along and fully support the effort that Frankfurt School is giving to provide their students with opportunities that could significantly shape their views in an international environment.“
