As an alternative to the traditional MBA thesis, Frankfurt School offers their full-time MBA students the chance to work on a Group Consultancy Project (GCP) or an Entrepreneurial Business Plan (EBP). The EBP is designed for students who are interested in starting their own business, whereas the GCP requires teams of students to cooperate with companies on a consulting project.
For the current intake of MBA students, six companies are offering ten consulting projects. The companies are Eintracht Frankfurt, Just.hot, Media Company & Consulting, NewMark, Verizon, and Zalando. The project topics range from developing internet business platforms to market studies to new accounting approaches, internationalization strategies and even investment opportunities in different countries.
The application for a GCP is competitive. Teams of students apply and are selected by companies and FS based on the best fit between project requirements and academic performance. After the teams are assigned, they start immediately by designing the project outline in accordance with the respective company and the supervisor from FS. Before the project work begins, teams will present a project outline to the company and FS. This step is also included in their final evaluation.
For the next milestone, teams will deliver a progress report. Finally, the teams must submit and present their final reports; this includes a defense of their proposals.
The MBA students appreciate this approach and the GCP is in strong demand from our students. It is, however, worth noting that several students have also opted to complete a traditional thesis. Additionally, some students with a passion for entrepreneurship who hope to start their own businesses, will also complete the EBP.
