Reflections from my experience at the Sant'Anna Business Game 2023
My journey in capital markets, risk auditing and class leadership

I joined the Master of Finance at Frankfurt School last August and beforehand I finished my Bachelor in Business Administration in a dual studies programme. Currently I am working in the Debt Capital Markets division of Commerzbank and engage in Frankfurt Schools Student Consulting.

My decision for the MoF

The step from my home region, the contemplative Eifel, to the thrilling financial center Frankfurt, as well as the cross-border experience to live and work in Shanghai for several months – all this has strengthened my belief that a career in the banking/consulting sector is exactly what I want to pursue. In my opinion Frankfurt School is the ideal place to gain the necessary knowledge and state-of-the-art tools for these industries – taught by high-professional academics in an international environment.

Besides the academic reputation, I was also really looking forward to the life on the brand new campus. After meeting some fellow students and even friends from my previous course of studies, I am glad to be part of a diverse intake with lots of talented and motivated people. Spending two years working towards a similar goal is a great experience so far. Even the sometimes quite challenging and tightly timed assignments are good to handle in such groups of like-minded people. Therefore teamwork is not only advertised in FS, but quite indispensable. Doing more than just studying is very important, so I am glad to be part of FS Student Consulting – an initiative that works on different projects with external companies and provides a great place to network. But there are also several more possibilities to get involved at FS, such as sports, politics or various great events on campus.

Advice for prospective students

If you haven´t done so already, I can really recommend attending one of the monthly Master Info Evenings at Frankfurt School. For me, it was the first personal contact with FS staff and students and it provided a comfortable atmosphere to ask any possible question.

Remembering the application process I can assure you that it is quite straightforward – but if you have any questions you can also always count on the admissions staff. Make sure to be authentic and confident in your essays as well as in the possible scholarship applications. In my personal experience your personal drive and character are weighted at least as much as academic and professional record. So it helped me a lot to practice the personal fit interview with other prospective students.

To put it in a nutshell, you shouldn´t overthink your CV down to the last detail when applying – just be yourself, share your experiences that led you to the FS-application and prepare well for the tests.

What I am looking forward to

With regard to the Master of Finance, I am particularly looking forward to the upcoming concentrations. You are able to choose one of four different focus topics, which fit best to your interests and in my case also to my current work environment. Furthermore being able to directly apply suitable knowledge to real-life business cases was one of the main reasons I chose the Master of Finance programme in cooperation with my employer.

The possible semester abroad, as well as the exclusively at FS offered 3-day model, complete the outstanding overall picture for me. As someone who loves travelling and learning about new cultures, I am very much looking forward to my semester abroad at one of the many partner universities around the globe.

In any case, I would apply again for the Master of Finance programme at Frankfurt School!
