What is the FS Swimming Initiative?

FS Swimming is one of the newest student initiatives at Frankfurt School, founded to bring together students with a passion for swimming and healthy living. We organize weekly training sessions at pools in Frankfurt and aim to create a community that values both athletic dedication and teamwork. Our mission is to represent Frankfurt School at university-level competitions while fostering team spirit and student engagement through sport.

What are the WIUC?

Taking place from 12–16 November 2025 in Barcelona, the 10th  brought together student athletes from over 100 universities across 32 countries. The event featured a wide range of sports, from swimming and basketball to athletics and football, fostering international exchange and sportsmanship at the university level.

For FS Swimming, it marked the team’s first international appearance — an exciting opportunity to represent Frankfurt School on a global stage and compete alongside some of the world’s most talented student athletes.

Wednesday – Arrival and Accreditation

Our team arrived in Barcelona on Wednesday, greeted by a surprising 20°C in mid-November and bright sunshine. After settling in, we headed to the accreditation center to collect our badges and competition materials. Along with our accreditation, we received a goodie bag containing a bottle, towel, T-shirt, and many other useful items for the competition days.

Thursday – First Day of Competition and Opening Ceremony

Thursday marked the start of our first races at the World Inter University Championships. The morning session featured the 50m Freestyle, where Robin Schmutz delivered a strong performance, finishing 20th with an impressive time of 24.59 seconds. Julia Wameling achieved an outstanding 15th place with 28.50 seconds, establishing herself among the top swimmers of the field.

In the 4x50m Freestyle Relay, our team—Jonas Knost, Vivien Novy, Julia Wameling, and Robin Schmutz—secured 14th place overall. Julia managed to improve her individual time significantly to 27.50 seconds, while Robin anchored the team with a remarkable final leg of 22.84 seconds, powering the relay to a strong finish.
Jonas Knost followed behind and Vivien Novy took 39th place, with Carolina Kohlmann Garcia finishing 63rd. Each swimmer showed strong performances and set a promising tone for the rest of the competition.

Between races, lunch was provided for all participating teams, offering the perfect opportunity to connect and exchange with students from universities all over the world.

In the evening, the Opening Ceremony followed, featuring the parade of all delegations and a spectacular fireworks display to officially open the Championships.

Friday – Day Two of Swimming

Friday brought even more racing action and strong performances from our team. The morning started with the 50m Butterfly, where Robin Schmutz came remarkably close to qualifying for the finals, finishing 12th with a time of 26.23 seconds. Julia Wameling also impressed with 32.82 seconds, followed closely by Carolina Kohlmann Garcia and Vivien Novy, both showing great consistency across their events.

In the 50m Breaststroke, Robin Schmutz achieved another strong result, taking 15th place with 31.15 seconds. Vivien Novy swam to 25th place, and Carolina Kohlmann Garcia placed 41st, continuing the team’s solid overall showing against a strong international field.

The day concluded with the 200m Freestyle, where Jonas Knost represented FS Swimming in one of the event’s longest sprint distances. He finished 38th with a time of 2:23.44 minutes, adding another strong effort to the team’s tally. After the races, the team spent the afternoon exploring the Event and the City of Barcelona.

Saturday – Finals and Closing Ceremony

Saturday marked the final day of the official Championships, featuring the basketball and football finals followed by the official Closing Ceremony. The energy in the arena was electrifying as teams celebrated a week of competition, cultural exchange, and friendship.

Sunday – Departure

On Sunday, we packed our bags and headed back to Frankfurt. After four days full of swimming, cheering, and new impressions, everyone returned home tired but happy—grateful for the experience and the memories made in Barcelona.

Looking Ahead

The WIUC were an unforgettable experience for FS Swimming and a proud milestone for our young initiative. Next on our calendar are two exciting domestic events: the Sprintnacht in Karlsruhe and the German University Championships (DHM) in Hannover. We look forward to continuing our weekly trainings, welcoming new members, and representing FS at future events.

A big thank-you to the Bankakademie e.V. and Frankfurt School for making opportunities like this possible.
