Do I need German language skills to study at a German university?

This is one of the most important questions most international applicants ask when they start looking at an undergraduate degree at Frankfurt School. And you will be happy to learn that– no, you don’t! Frankfurt School is prepared for international students and offers four programmes taught entirely in English: Business Administration, Computational Business Analytics and Management, Philosophy & Economics.

Still, the application process can be challenging. Give yourself the best chance with the following top 5 tips on how to increase your chances of admission:

1) Check the requirements

All applicants who wish to study in Germany are required to have a higher education entrance qualification. Depending on your country of origin you may start directly after having graduated school or you will have to complete two or three semesters of study in your home country first. You can verify whether your higher education entrance qualification is equivalent to the German qualification by visiting the DAAD Admissions data base or the database www.anabin.de.

2) Start early

You can already start applying up to 12 months before the study programme starts. This will ensure you have enough time to get all your documents prepared, to apply for a visa and to start the search for a suitable accommodation.

3) Complete your online application and write the perfect letter of motivation

Apart from your CV we require a letter of motivation from all our students. The perfect letter of motivation should be around one page and include the following information:

  • What is your professional goal? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
  • Why do you apply for the chosen Bachelor’s programme?
  • Have you gathered any relevant experience as a member of any organization? (Students association, NGO, political party, volunteer
    service)
  • Tell us what you like about Frankfurt School, why you would like to study in Germany and why you are the perfect fit!

4) SAT or FS Admission Test – it’s up to you!

We will review your application documents and if they meet our requirements, we invite candidates to provide us with their test results as part of our admission requirements. This can be the SAT test or our internal Frankfurt School Admission Test as an alternative for those who are able to come to our Campus in Frankfurt. If you decide to take the Frankfurt School Admission test, the SAT is not required. You may upload the IELTS or TOEFL score report after the application deadline – by the mid of August at the latest.

5) Become a member of the FS family

Once you have successfully completed the Frankfurt School Admission Process you are invited to become part of the FS Family! As soon as you are admitted, we recommend searching for accommodation as soon as possible. The FS dorms are a great option to start with! The study programme starts with an introduction week at the end of August where you will attend information sessions, get to know the university and meet your fellow students from all over the world. Do you have any further questions, or would you like to talk to one of our student ambassadors? Come meet us at the FS Bachelor Day!

Apply now and let us teach you your first German words: Herzlich Willkommen in Frankfurt!
