Studying and living in Frankfurt: An international student's experience

An FS Alumni & Friends Event was organised during the Master of Finance “Luxembourg Leadership Offsite 2016”, for the second consecutive year. More than 25 Frankfurt School alumni and around 10 Master of Finance 2015 Intake students exchanged their personal and professional experience. This was the penultimate event of the offsite, and offered the current students great insights into how our alumni ended up working in Luxembourg after finishing with their studies at Frankfurt School. Students also got to learn about life in Luxembourg and what kind of job opportunities and professional development the country has to offer. The new Student & Alumni Relations Department at the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management did a great job in organizing the event, as the impressions from both alumni and current students were extremely positive. Apart from that, our alumni could have heard a lot of news from Frankfurt School: Sarah Girsch, Master of Finance Programme Director, informed alumni about the current structure of the Master of Finance Programme, while Dr. Elisa Antz, Head of Student & Alumni Relations, presented the Frankfurt School’s New Campus, explained what the goals of the new Department are and announced the next Luxembourg FS Alumni & Friends Event, which we all await with great enthusiasm.

Here are some of the impressions from our current students and alumni

„The Alumni event in Luxembourg gave me the opportunity to extend my network within the financial community. I had some interesting conversations with former Frankfurt School graduates which are now working for some of the huge financial institutions in one of the biggest financial hubs in Europe.”

Timo Becker, MoF Class of 2017 student

“I really liked the Alumni event, while I met a lot of interesting people who explained me the possible job opportunities in Luxembourg. They also gave me a super good insight on how the life in Luxembourg is, and how international the city actually is. The size of the event was perfect, so I ended up knowing a lot of new people.”

Sara Villamil, MoF Class of 2017 student

“Being originally from Luxembourg, I graduated in 2011 from the Frankfurt School MSc in Finance with a concentration in Capital markets. Upon my return to Luxembourg I started working as a Risk Manager within Enovos Luxembourg S.A. where I also did my internship while writing my Master’s thesis. Now I’m a PhD candidate in Market Risk Management on a joint project with the University of Luxembourg, and the president of LuxDoc, Luxembourg’s young researchers association. Such a refreshing experience it was to see the new and young brilliant heads of the Master of Finance programme of the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management mingle among us “oldies”. It was amazing listening to their great ideas and plans that they are aspiring to achieve. Sharing my experience in the convivial atmosphere of the Latino bar was without any doubt an enriching moment.”
