Reflections from my experience at the Sant'Anna Business Game 2023
My journey in capital markets, risk auditing and class leadership

After completing my Bachelor’s degree, I started working in audit but quickly discovered that the future of my career lies in a different area. As soon as I joined the Sustainable Finance Team at Deloitte in early 2022, I knew that I wanted to further develop and extend my skills as well as my theoretical knowledge in this field. Since the beginning of my studies, I have been working part-time to continue to benefit from the regular sharing of knowledge, gain further practical experience and be updated about regulatory changes as well as news concerning all frameworks.

The regulations and directives are an important foundation for the whole financial sector

I get the opportunity to be a part of advisory projects related to different sustainability regulations and the performance of audits of the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation in the financial services sector. What I enjoy most about working in the regulatory field of ESG is the high relevance of the legal requirements with all the focuses I may take on because the regulations and directives are an important foundation for the whole financial sector and associated projects. In addition, the advisory projects mostly cover highly topical regulatory updates, for which I am allowed to provide supportive advice.

Apart from focusing on regulatory requirements, I am given a chance to extend my knowledge even further in the area of Capital Solutions and Sustainable Financing in an investment bank in the context of a summer internship this year, which I am really looking forward to.

Sustainable Finance at Frankfurt School

Once I saw the newly offered Sustainable Finance concentration, the decision to complete my Master of Finance degree at FS was very easy for me. The programme unites students from all over the world. It also has a lot to offer: Apart from being a member of FS Sustainability and FS Charity, I used several possibilities to participate in networking events and the Career Day to extend my professional network and connect with potential employers. An additional advantage is clearly the 3-day model as it allows me to keep working part-time and therefore also gain practical experience while studying. Frankfurt, as the financial hub of Europe, also complements my decision to choose FS.

Due to the acknowledgement of its relevance, ESG is already partly covered in our lectures even before the different concentrations start, emphasising the widespread importance of the topic. Choosing the Sustainable Finance concentration allows me to explore the investment perspective next to the regulatory one by taking classes like ESG Investing.

Besides the content of the lectures, I also have the possibility to participate in a lot of sessions and events where several ESG-related topics are presented and discussed, which I have made use of several times.

The lectures, events and the chance to participate in several initiatives combine the perfect skill development possibilities and allow me to expand my knowledge in a quantitative and qualitative way. In my opinion, the programme provides valuable and, above all, very practical knowledge to me from which I will benefit in the future, especially regarding the broadly diversified content of the classes. The programme prepares me in the best possible way for future challenges through the method of teaching and the analysis of approaches to different problems.

The theoretical input combined with professional experience

Working on developing the financial sector to become more sustainable by reaching net zero emissions is one of the most important key issues to be solved in the future. The theoretical input combined with my professional experience is preparing me in the best possible way to work in the field of Sustainable Finance. I look forward to being a part of the transition and overcoming the upcoming obstacles that will arise during the process.
