Behind the scenes at UN: FS MUN delegates visited UN Headquarters after hours

Exploring New York City, visiting global companies, attending inspiring workshops and participating in the NMUN conference – ten unforgettable days filled with learning, new impressions, laughter and lasting memories.

Together with 40 fellow students, I had the privilege of being part of the FS MUN delegation, proudly representing Frankfurt School at the National Model United Nations Conference 2025 in New York City. From deepening relationships with peers to collaborating and negotiating with students from all around the globe, the trip offered valuable insights and hands-on experience in international politics, diplomacy and international cooperation.

From DZ Bank to UN Headquarters: Insights into the Professional Sphere

In the first few days, we visited several companies and institutions. One highlight was our visit to DZ Bank AG in the iconic One Vanderbilt building. There, we toured the offices, learned about the company’s structure, and participated in an insightful Bloomberg workshop led by Gerhard Summerer, President of DZFM. We also had the opportunity to connect with current DZ Bank interns and employees, gaining first-hand insights into their work, career paths and professional experiences.

Another highlight was our visit to the United Nations Headquarters, where we were given a guided tour by Rytis Paulauskas, the Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the United Nations. Walking through chambers such as the Security Council, the United Nations Economic and Social Council, and the General Assembly – and having the chance to ask an ambassador all our questions about the UN – was incredibly enlightening. Standing in the very places I had only ever seen on TV – where key international negotiations take place – was truly inspiring.

At a dinner organised by FS Alumni Leon Schulte and Clément Presse and hosted by Deutsche Bank, we had the chance to connect with FS graduates now working in New York City. I especially enjoyed hearing their stories – both personal and professional – and learning about their journey from Frankfurt to the U.S., all while enjoying a beautiful view on the heart of Manhattan.

Crafting Global Resolutions Amidst Personal Growth

The NMUN conference itself began five days into our trip. Our delegation represented both France and Namibia in various committees, where we engaged in discussions about global issues with students from all around the world.

Having the opportunity to step out of our comfort zones to deliver speeches in front of an audience of 200 people for the first time was an incredible and unforgettable experience. We got to develop our diplomatic skills by negotiating with other country representatives, understanding different viewpoints and working toward effective, inclusive solutions to real-world challenges.

The range of topics we discussed was vast- from nuclear disarmament and international security, to enhancing humanitarian aid in light of the worsening climate crisis, and bridging the persistent global financial gap to achieve the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

Grateful for the Journey – Excited for the Future

Beyond the official program, every moment made the trip special – whether it was running in Central Park in the morning, going to museums, visiting landmarks like the Statue of Liberty, or exploring Brooklyn while chatting with other delegates and eating a slice of pizza.

A heartfelt thank-you to the FS MUN heads Lea Maria Riebl, Ruben Peter Weitzer, Lara Rieger, and Lukas Hein – who not only prepared the whole delegation for the conference but also organized every workshop, visit, and social event that made the trip truly memorable.

It was an honor to represent the Frankfurt School at NMUN 2025, and we, as an initiative, are already looking forward to our NMUN 2026 journey – from the kick-off and various preparation workshops at Frankfurt School all the way to New York City!
