After my A-Levels in Bavaria, I started my Bachelor studies at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg, majoring in International Business. The study programme required me to do some credits abroad, so I decided to finish my studies in Spain. Spending a year in Barcelona, I started to love the open-minded and international atmosphere that the city offered.
Coming back to Germany, I decided to continue my studies and do a master’s programme. For this, I wished to find a combination of a renowned university and an international city. Hence, I found the perfect match in Frankfurt and started my Master’s in Management programme at Frankfurt School in September 2019.
I’ve always worked during my studies either as an intern or a working student. I wanted to continue that during my master’s. However, not being from Frankfurt, I had no idea what type of companies to find there – except for banks. At that time, I was in my first semester taking the Marketing class with Professor Britta Meinert. The course included some theoretical sessions but majorly focused on a case study with Proctor and Gamble (P&G). It was an exciting task because representatives of P&G attended some sessions on campus, introducing us to the case and later evaluating our results on products that we would recommend to launch in Germany.
For me, that was the first time that I got aware of how many well-known brands belong to P&G and how many of them I am using every day. Looking for a job as a working student, I applied to several FMCG companies here in Frankfurt, including P&G. P&G focuses strongly on who they are hiring and therefore has a holistic hiring process including tests and different interviews. Even though I originally applied for Marketing and Sales roles, I was invited to an interview for a working-student position at the Corporate Communication department shortly after. Not knowing what lay ahead, I entered the interview open-minded and was convinced by the many opportunities that my future boss, Gabi Hässig, offered me with this position. Without hesitation, I accepted the offer and started in December 2019.
The three-day-model that the master’s programme at Frankfurt School provides allowed me to work 20 hours from Monday to Wednesday and study from Thursday to Saturday. Studying while working can be challenging, but it also taught me to manage my time more efficiently. Many of my friends had the same working routine, which helped me adapt to this busy schedule a lot. What also helped was that my job allowed me to work on many interesting tasks. These included Social Media content creation or analysis, internal and external corporate communication, and coordinating P&G’s Covid-19 donations to charitable recipients. My favourite project, however, was the “RTL Spendenmarathon” in 2020, where I was trusted with a lead role in organizing the event for P&G employees.
Concluding my studies in the midst of a global pandemic, I looked for a suitable topic for my master’s thesis. Finally, I got the chance to write a joint thesis with P&G about the recent topic of consumer behaviour in times of crisis. I was especially happy when Britta Meinert offered to supervise the thesis and, on the one hand, gave me lots of freedom to incorporate my style while, on the other hand, sharing her academic expertise. Due to the network at P&G I’ve built up in the last two years, I was able to get interviews with some of our executive-level directors for my research. This thesis was a great way of finishing my student life.
While looking for full-time positions, I always had in mind to continue my time at P&G but wanted to get to know other companies as well. I went through several application processes at different firms and even got some job offers for interesting roles; however, once P&G offered me a full-time position as a Sales Manager here in Frankfurt, I did not hesitate to accept it. From my two years at P&G, I knew that by joining P&G in a full-time position, I will get the chance to develop my career in a dynamic environment, as you usually change assignments every two years. Moreover, P&G holds its reputation for being a ‘training ground’ for excellent Leadership skills and invests a lot in their New Hires, like organizing “Sales Colleges” with our DACH Country Leaders after the first few weeks. Now, after the first five months on the job, I can say that the transition from university can be challenging; however, my colleagues and my new boss offered me lots of help to ease the onboarding and I was able to take on much responsibility and get into meaningful work right from the start.
