Learning by doing: How FS and PwC prepare me for my future in digital business

Deciding to do a master’s programme might not be the easiest task but finding the one that fits you best might be the most challenging part of it all. My personal criterion for an ideal programme was to have integrated classroom study and valuable corporate experience happening simultaneously. Frankfurt School’s (FS) small class approach provides an intimate environment to exchange ideas and build meaningful relationships with my fellow classmates.

How did I make up my mind eventually?

Coming from an engineering background and then working as a marketing data analyst for a manufacturing firm for two years, I like the way FS instils a holistic view of business study, ranging from operations management and strategy to marketing and data analytics in the business world within its Master in Management curriculum, which are a perfect setup from my point of view. Furthermore, the company project offers a great opportunity to apply all the theoretical knowledge learned in solving real-life problems. It will also provide the required skills to formulate strategies and give a platform to serve the industries.

How did I feel about the application process?

What I enjoyed the most about FS’ application process was that everything could be done via an online portal and that there were no application fees involved. The Recruitment & Admissions Team were available for queries all day, and I even got to attend a webinar session before submitting my application, which cleared last open questions. I applied to FS when the first wave of COVID-19 hit the world, and there was uncertainty about subsequent waves leading to further lockdowns. Anyhow, I submitted my application and was invited for an interview, which went great and gave me the opportunity to talk to the programme director directly. We discussed my motivation towards applying as well as my career goals, and how FS helps me in achieving these through dedicated career services and alumni relations.

Even though I should have felt relieved once I completed the admissions process, the reality was I was quite nervous. I personally used to skip a beat at every sudden notification tone. Therefore, I suggest future applicants try to banish any thoughts of uncertainty in their mind. Instead, take advantage of this time by learning more about FS and also don’t let waiting on your feedback keep you from relaxing.

What starting my master’s during the pandemic felt like

FS was well prepared to accommodate a safe and healthy environment for everyone on campus. This pandemic has taught humans the capability and utilisation of Digital Technology in its real-time application. I was impressed by FS being so well-equipped and transparent in arranging a 5-days orientation programme in a hybrid model. Every activity was streamed on an internal student platform and covered the most important aspects for incoming students: career services, community values, and student activities. On top of this, FS offered to choose from 15 workshops, covering topics from personal development, mastering public speaking, stress management to developing intercultural competencies.

My highlight during this orientation week was the networking aspect across the different Master programmes. A digitally gamified mode via the Adventure works platform was organised, which was designed in such a way to accommodate 400+ students trying to interact individually or in a group. This networking built valuable relationships that I appreciate until today!
