The AKB Business Champions Case Competition: Insights, Challenges, and Learnings

As an avid traveller, I always look forward to exploring new places and experiencing different cultures. I recently travelled to New York City with a group of delegates from the FS Model United Nations initiative to attend the NMUN conference. As one of the heads of the initiative, this trip involved a lot of planning for my co-heads and myself, and we always tried to make it not just about the conference but also made arrangements to visit leading companies in the city to gain insights into the world of banking and consulting.

The office visits provided us with a valuable opportunity to gain insights into the world of consulting and banking, as well as a chance to connect with professionals in the industry. We also appreciated the opportunity to explore different parts of the city and experience the stunning views from the offices.

Bain & Company and PwC Potential future employers?

Our first stop was at Bain & Company, conveniently located just a 15-minute walk from our hotel. We were greeted by the team lead for undergraduate recruiting, who provided us with an overview of the company. As we listened to the presentation, our minds were buzzing with questions, eager to learn more about the world of consulting. We were delighted when eight Associate Consultants joined us, providing us with candid answers to our questions about recruitment, project scopes and even recommendations for dining and entertainment in the city.

Next up was PwC, where we spent a relaxing two hours in their office, discussing various topics while enjoying delicious Chipotle and sipping on a soda. I was impressed by the laid-back atmosphere, which was a welcome break from the intensity of the conference.

Deutsche Bank – Probably the coolest office in NYC

Finally, we visited Deutsche Bank’s new office building, located in Midtown Manhattan. They were the last bank to operate an office on Wall Street. But due to rising costs in the previous couple of years, space constraints and renovation backlog, they decided to finally relocate within the city. We received an extensive tour of the building, complete with table tennis, table soccer and a basketball machine. As we explored the building, we were struck by the stunning views from the windows, which offered a unique perspective of the city. We also had the chance to speak with the head of DB Americas Strategy, who provided us with valuable insights into the company, explored the trading floor and got a glimpse of their impressive art collection.

Join the initiative and experience it for yourself!

If you are someone who is always eager to learn and explore, definitely come and talk to us at the initiative fair in September. This will allow you to learn about how you can join the initiative and potentially secure a spot for the next trip to New York. Whether it is attending conferences or visiting leading companies in the city, there is always something new and exciting to discover. And if you have a contact working at an exciting company in NYC and think they would be open to hosting a group of students for an office visit, workshop or company presentation, please do not hesitate to send an email to modelun.fs@gmail.com or contact us via one of the social media channels listed on our website. We appreciate every connection!

Conclusion

Overall, the trip to New York City was an unforgettable experience, filled with opportunities for learning, exploration and connection. I am grateful for the chance to have participated in the FS Model United Nations initiative and to have had the opportunity to connect with professionals in the industry. As I will be graduating soon, I wish everyone attending next year lots of fun, fruitful debates and a good time in the city that never sleeps!
