Learning by doing: How FS and PwC prepare me for my future in digital business

Studying abroad is not only beneficial for your future career but can also be one of the best times of your life! When else will you have the chance to be fully immersed into another community and explore a country and its culture much deeper than a tourist could, whilst still having enough time to study?

When I found out you can do a semester abroad with Frankfurt School I knew I had to go. The wide range of FS partner universities means that you don’t have to spend hours searching for a uni online. A lot of students dread the amount of admin that needs to be done prior to going abroad, but FS were extremely helpful and made the process a lot easier than I thought it would be. They even continue to provide support whilst I am studying at my partner university. Many other exchange students said they had difficulties with getting their choice of study abroad courses accepted by their home universities, so I was really glad that this went so smoothly with FS.

I wanted to see how other countries tackle the challenges of modern technology, so SKKU (SungKyunKwan University) in South Korea was my first choice. The university shows how you can research the future without abandoning the traditions of your culture and origin. Walking through an old temple complex to enter a library with digital media rooms almost feels like traveling in time. I am really enjoying my time and learned a lot through courses that offer a different perspective on topics that I had already studied. Alongside my studies, I still have plenty of time to travel, form new friendships and find new hobbies.

Seoul is a bustling Asian mega city located between the ocean and the mountains, offering a wide variety of leisure activities for all kinds of interests! Whether you want to dance the Gangnam Style all night long in clubs, spend a whole day shopping at the gigantic mall, soak your tired legs in an overnight spa, hike in the nearby national park or find your inner peace during a temple stay (getting up at 4 a.m. to pray together included!) – there are no limitations.

Korean food is quite spicy so it took me a few days to become accustomed to their taste, but now I know just how much I will miss kimchi and hot rice cakes once my semester abroad is over, and although I am experiencing a completely different culture, everyone here was so nice to me that I almost forgot how far I am from home. They say that time sure flies when you are having fun, so it is almost sad that I will return to Germany soon. But I will keep the memories forever and if I begin to think that Frankfurt is too busy again, I will sit down and reminisce about Seoul, the city that never stops.

So whether you go east or west, north or south, stay close or venture far from home – a semester abroad is always an unforgettable experience that you will remember dearly for the rest of your life. Why hesitate? The world is waiting for you.
