Before I joined the Master in Management here at Frankfurt School in 2019, I studied nearby at Goethe University for my Bachelor’s. One of the main reasons why I chose to study at Frankfurt School was the 3-day model. In a typical week during the lecture period I work on Mondays and Tuesdays and have group work in the evenings, prepare university topics on Wednesdays, and then have lectures from Thursday to Saturday.
I think being able to study full-time and work part-time is a great plus and this wouldn’t have been possible at my former university simply because of the schedule. The three-day model is great because you don’t have to talk to your employer about new working times every semester: the schedule at Frankfurt School is fixed in advance and you can plan your time well. Of course, it has to be said that it is not always easy to coordinate working and studying – especially during phases of intensive learning prior to exams, the days are very long. Fortunately, I get a lot of support from my boss. He gives me flexibility and understands when I can work less during exam periods. I also often hear this from other students who work and study in the 3-day model. I think most companies are happy to have FS students as employees and therefore also want to support our studies.
I got my current working student job through the FS Community. In 2020, I was part of a consulting project of Frankfurt School Student Consulting. The client was a small consultancy and the project was about team development methods. The collaboration with the client worked very well, which ultimately led to me being offered to start there as a working student for further topics. How I now got my new job is another example of how well the FS community works and that it is worthwhile to get involved in Frankfurt School – in whatever form. Frankfurt School Student Consulting is generally also a great alternative (instead of a working student job) to gain paid practical experience in the consulting field and to get to know other students interested in consulting at FS.
Since I have been working there, it happens more and more often that I can apply newly learned models, for example on strategic topics, from the lecture at the job. In addition, the job also helps me tackle assignments at Frankfurt School. Especially with „consulting projects“ in lectures, my experience as a working student helps me analyse and understand the real problems of the target company better. Now my master’s at FS is (sadly) almost over… I can say that I am very happy with my choice of study programme and a lot of it is due to the 3-day model because it enables me to start my professional career after my master’s degree in the best possible way.
