How a working student position goes hand-in-hand with my university experience

Having been working full-time for about three months now, I have not only learned a wide scale of new things as I kick-start my professional journey, but my mind has also opened itself to new insights that help in my overall personal development. At work, I have had the opportunity to observe how the concepts I learned about in my courses last semester really come to play in the corporate workplace.

Boardroom Lessons: Strategy & Negotiation at Solvay Business Games 2025

As Master of Finance students at Frankfurt School, we are naturally familiar with topics like valuation, financial modelling, and M&A dynamics from an academic perspective. However, applying these concepts in a high-pressure, fast-paced negotiation setting was an entirely different story.
In September 2023, Frankfurt School Community Management informed the student body about the A4S (Accounting for Sustainability) International Case Competition 2023. Hong Nhung Tran, Tobias Klinkhamels and I, Cloe De Leo, decided to apply. We believed that the A4SICC would allow the three of us to train our skills in sustainability and human rights.

Embarking on a Master's in Applied Data Science at Frankfurt School has been a transformative journey, intertwining rigorous academic work with real-world professional experience. It has been a journey of growth, learning and self-discovery. It’s a challenging yet rewarding path that has taught me the importance of resilience, time management and strategic planning.
I started my Part-time MBA studies in 2020. During my studies, I have been able to broaden my skills and further leverage the advantage of the FS Network in the financial industry. Ambition, determination and the support of FS Career Services have encouraged me to start a new job in investment banking during my studies.

Right from the start, I tried to attend many of the voluntary courses in addition to the normal curriculum, as I am convinced that the need for ongoing training to adapt to the rapidly changing working conditions continues to grow. Further, it is also a chance to get to know business experts through executive talks and career events.
Every year in November, Frankfurt School Career Services organizes the Frankfurt School Career Day, exclusively for FS students and alumni. This is where I got my first impression of Berenberg. The unique Wealth & Asset Management (WAM) program immediately caught my attention, which I applied that day.

Insights from a Product Specialist Equities at Berenberg

One of the main reasons why I joined the Berenberg Portfolio Management Equities team within Berenberg WAM full-time after my Master of Finance studies at Frankfurt School was the phenomenal interpersonal skills I have encountered with my interviewers and the team members I had the pleasure to meet.
After working in a fast-paced multinational environment in Colombia, I reached important goals that generated change and added value to the organizations I worked for. However, I realized that the technical skills, corporate and institutional knowledge, and the business intuition I had, were not enough for the position I would like to have and dreamt of.
