In the heart of Paris, near iconic sights and bustling streets, the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management’s Women’s Soccer team experienced an unforgettable time at the prestigious Women’s European Football Tournament (WEFT) hosted by HEC University. Selected for their skill and dedication, our team was among six university women’s soccer teams from across Europe competing from April 26th to 28th, 2024. The event was a mix of intense football matches, social activities, and cultural experiences, creating a perfect blend of competition and fun. This trip was a rollercoaster of emotions, showcasing our team’s resilience, closeness, and passion for soccer.
Our adventure kicked off early on a Friday morning. Despite a bit of sleepiness, excitement buzzed through us as we boarded the train to Paris. Anticipation for the challenges and triumphs ahead filled the air. Upon arriving at HEC University, our spirits were high, ready to face teams from Imperial College, King’s College, Trinity, and our hosts, HEC. We checked into our accommodation and quickly familiarized ourselves with the campus. The sprawling grounds and impressive facilities heightened our excitement for the matches ahead.
The first day was a rollercoaster of emotions. Still tired from the journey and without a proper warm-up, we approached our initial match with enthusiasm and grit. Despite not winning, our spirits remained unbroken. Instead, we embraced the chance to bond over pizza and bowling with our competitors, embodying true sportsmanship. The evening’s social activities allowed us to unwind and forge new friendships. Laughter and camaraderie filled the air, setting a positive tone for the days to come.
Saturday brought renewed energy. Despite a shaky start, we improved steadily, leading to a thrilling victory against the formidable HEC team. Cheers filled the air, celebrating our shared love for the game. The match was intense, with both teams showcasing incredible skill and determination. Our victory was not just a testament to our training but also to our unity and strategic play.
As the tournament wrapped up on Saturday evening with the prize-giving ceremony, we were touched by the warmth and hospitality of our hosts. Though we didn’t take home the trophy, the friendships and lessons we gained were invaluable. Our head coach summed it up best: “We might not have won the tournament, but we certainly won hearts.” The festivities concluded with a lively party at HEC, where the joy of the game transcended competition. The dance floor was filled with players from all teams, celebrating the spirit of the tournament.
On our final day, we explored Paris, soaking in the sights and sounds of the city, reflecting on our journey together. We visited landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame Cathedral, and strolled along the Seine River. These moments allowed us to bond further and appreciate the cultural richness of Paris. As we bid farewell to the City of Light, we carried with us memories of laughter, unity, and the indomitable spirit of our team.
The WEFT Tournament might not have ended with a trophy, but the true victory lay in the friendships we made, the lessons we learned, and the spirit that unites us. Until next time, we cherish our Parisian adventure and the beautiful game that brings us together. Vive le football, and vive la camaraderie!
