What motivated me to do an MBA at Frankfurt School? A career change. After working many years in the healthcare sector, I gained increased interest in financial subjects such as M&A and Corporate Finance, which led to the calculated decision to obtain an MBA degree.

As a Full-time MBA student from Ghana studying at Frankfurt School, I have been privileged to experience an education that goes beyond the traditional classroom and provides a truly global perspective on business and leadership. Living and learning in Germany has also been a unique experience. The country is known for its strong economy, excellent infrastructure and efficient systems.
Recently, our Full-Time MBA Class visited the Messer Group office in Bad Soden. We were warmly received at the Office and Mr Helmut Kaschenz, a Member of the Management Board, kicked off the day with a detailed talk on how Messer came to be.

When I started learning German I fell in love with the language so much that I decided to leave the US and move to Germany to pursue a Full-Time MBA. It was while preparing for a financial services interview in German that the idea came to me. Why was I still looking up financial jargon when I was already at C1 level and had fully completed all of the popular app-based courses?
Having spent nearly 6 years developing a successful career, to then leave that behind and take a major step towards a new pathway was a lot to contemplate, however, I knew that this pathway would result in me accelerating my potential greatly.

We discovered that we had high levels of trust in our classmates and great mutual support. We also found that the atmosphere during our collaborations was very positive. On the other hand, we found that we had room for improvement in communication, efficiency, process, and goal and task transparency during challenges.

For me, the essence of our MBA is to equip graduates with a holistic understanding of business and leadership skills to lead successful teams and be the driver of change in whatever industry and role they choose. It is an enormous privilege as I get to shape the learning and career journeys of the leaders of tomorrow.
With the determination of acquiring further necessary tools and knowledge that our business and society demand, I decided to start a Full-time MBA. In addition, the incredible international networking opportunities are a great element that eventually determined my decision of studying at Frankfurt School.

How I came to realise the importance of education

I was always under the impression that work experience was more important than school and regardless of your education, you would be able to climb up the corporate ladder if you had the right attitude and worked hard enough. I found this to be false very quickly on my journey to find the right job.
My Medical Science background had carried me decently into my career, but the lack of foundation in business management and administration was frustratingly stunting my newfound passion. Thus, I made the riskiest investment so far in my life to have no income and go back to studying.

A new adventure after my MBA – from engineering to sustainable finance

I can say that the MBA has positively changed my career path after being in the energy sector for 5 years. Even though I had never considered it previously, I am now on a new adventure in the sustainable finance field, working for the FS-UNEP Centre.
Right from the start, I tried to attend many of the voluntary courses in addition to the normal curriculum, as I am convinced that the need for ongoing training to adapt to the rapidly changing working conditions continues to grow. Further, it is also a chance to get to know business experts through executive talks and career events.
