How a working student position goes hand-in-hand with my university experience

Having been working full-time for about three months now, I have not only learned a wide scale of new things as I kick-start my professional journey, but my mind has also opened itself to new insights that help in my overall personal development. At work, I have had the opportunity to observe how the concepts I learned about in my courses last semester really come to play in the corporate workplace.

Earlier this month, Aaryamann and I had the incredible opportunity to represent Frankfurt School at the Solvay Business Game in Brussels, one of the most prestigious student competitions in the world.
“Welcome back to Nigeria” – the energetic handshake and warm smile of Adedayo*, one of the security guards in my Lagosian hotel, are truly catching. Though Nigeria is characterized by multifaceted conflicts, the country stands for so much more than a flourishing private security service industry.

FS students’ participation in A4S International Case Competition (A4SICC)

In September 2023, Frankfurt School Community Management informed the student body about the A4S (Accounting for Sustainability) International Case Competition 2023. Hong Nhung Tran, Tobias Klinkhamels and I, Cloe De Leo, decided to apply. We believed that the A4SICC would allow the three of us to train our skills in sustainability and human rights.
Embarking on a Master's in Applied Data Science at Frankfurt School has been a transformative journey, intertwining rigorous academic work with real-world professional experience. It has been a journey of growth, learning and self-discovery. It’s a challenging yet rewarding path that has taught me the importance of resilience, time management and strategic planning.

Ambition, determination and the support of FS Career Services have encouraged me to start a new job in investment banking during my studies.
Nach dem Studium eine Karriere im M&A: Viel Arbeit, dafür aber ein großes Netzwerk und hohe Gehälter. So der Traum vieler Studenten, die kurz vor dem Abschluss stehen. Auch meine Vorstellungen gingen in eine ähnliche Richtung. Doch wie sieht es nun, nach zwei Jahren Berufserfahrung, in der Realität aus?

At FS Career Services, we know this all too well and can reassure you – there is an answer to every question.
Right from the start, I tried to attend many of the voluntary courses in addition to the normal curriculum, as I am convinced that the need for ongoing training to adapt to the rapidly changing working conditions continues to grow. Further, it is also a chance to get to know business experts through executive talks and career events.

Every year in November, Frankfurt School Career Services organizes the Frankfurt School Career Day, exclusively for FS students and alumni. This is where I got my first impression of Berenberg. The unique Wealth & Asset Management (WAM) program immediately caught my attention, which I applied that day.
One of the main reasons why I joined the Berenberg Portfolio Management Equities team within Berenberg WAM full-time after my Master of Finance studies at Frankfurt School was the phenomenal interpersonal skills I have encountered with my interviewers and the team members I had the pleasure to meet.
