Every year in November, Frankfurt School Career Services organizes the Frankfurt School Career Day, exclusively for FS students and alumni. This is where I got my first impression of Berenberg. The unique Wealth & Asset Management (WAM) program immediately caught my attention, which I applied that day.

The program structure

My 15-month rotational-based training programme started in October 2020 with two weeks of training. On that day, I met 26 Graduates that started its professional career at Berenberg with me. We are an intake of Graduates from different nationalities and with different backgrounds, making this programme even more exciting.

Normally, we would all have been in London for the training period. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, the training had to take place virtually. Nevertheless, we managed to grow together as a community that supports each other very well. In the meantime, some of these people have become good friends with who I am constantly in close contact. Although everything had to take place virtually, this time is one of the most exciting times within the programme that prepares you well for the start of your professional career.

As a WAM Graduate, you will explore Wealth and Asset Management distribution areas such as Multi-Asset, Portfolio Management Equities, Institutional Sales, Product Specialists, and Wealth Management. Thereby, you are free to choose the rotations based on your preferences. One of the main reasons I applied to this role is the opportunity to learn many different facets of Wealth and Asset Management throughout the tenure. This vast expansion of knowledge within the company makes it easy to find a long-term fit on both sides. The WAM specialisation has given me a combination of international exposure and relationship-building opportunities while also enabling me to focus on the area I am most passionate about. Not only does the programme equip me with the capabilities to become a subject matter expert, but it also showed me that understanding and linkages across the entirety of the financial industry are crucial factors of success.

The company culture

I am particularly excited about the international and transdisciplinary environment due to the openness and helpfulness within which interactions take place, combined with interesting and fulfilling project work. There is immense support throughout all employees, regardless of hierarchical rank. As a Graduate, you have different training sessions over the entire programme. For example, we have sales and stock pitch training, introductory meetings with different team heads, and personality and career training with one of Berenberg’s partners to support us in the best way for a successful professional career.

This support and open environment motivate me to absorb all learning opportunities given to me by highly experienced colleagues with vast industry knowledge.
