From Manila to Mainhattan: My Executive MBA journey

During these days, the financial service industry faces various challenges. Due to an increase in regulatory requirements, changes of the market environment and customer behavior as well as the digital transformation, the established market participants need to rethink existing business models and their organizational setup. Since joining one of the world´s largest audit and consultancy firms, I am actively participating in the future of finance. Especially within the last three years, I realized that transformation requires high adaptability of new management approaches, a strong international network and dedicated leadership skills. In order to meet these requirements, I was looking for a holistic academic perspective on the latest research methods while continuing my career and extending my existing industry knowledge at the same time. All of these reasons led me to the Part-time MBA programme at Frankfurt School.

New management approaches: Always try to connect theory and practice

The first semester being almost over, I can honestly say that the quality of the lectures has decidedly exceeded my expectations. Part-time MBA programmes thrive on a functioning relationship between theory and practice. Frankfurt School masters this balance in a unique way. In fact, almost all lectures are taught by practicing academics, board members or leading entrepreneurs/advisors. Here some highlights so far: It was a unique experience to actively discuss new management approaches in the field of corporate social responsibility with the former Minister President of Hesse and CEO of Bilfinger, Prof. Dr. Roland Koch. Moreover, we elaborated on ESG, climate-finance and corporate- governance topics with one of Germany’s leading researchers, Prof. Dr. Zacharias Sautner, and solved real-world business cases in the field of data analytics by directly using common business software. In addition, we are frequently invited to participate in exclusive executive talks (for example with Mr. Christian Sewing, current CEO at Deutsche Bank) to get further industry insights. Numerous group projects and online simulations allow me to combine theory and practice throughout my MBA programme at Frankfurt School.

Expand your international network to share best practices

My part-time MBA class of 2022 brings together people from over 22 nations and over 15 different industries. All of us are able to apply the new learnings and approaches to their organization and business culture. We often share feedback during the following lecture and learn from each other. We discuss which approaches worked well and how we managed to include them to our daily business. For me, the interaction with my classmates is a unique opportunity for exchange: This network will not end with the part-time MBA programme – I expect many of these connections to last a lifetime.

Develop your leadership potential and soft skills to support your business

Looking ahead to upcoming professional challenges as a proposal manager, skill courses such as negotiation skills, scientific writing and presentation skills fit in well with my daily business. The start of a part-time MBA programme was the next logical step to foster my professional and personal development. Will it be your next one, too?
