My name is Friedrich, and in Summer 2018, I decided to dive into a new adventure – the Master in Management (MiM) at Frankfurt School. Even though I had already gained some work experience in the financial industry, I wanted to further broaden my horizon and improve my professional skills. Since I was not prepared to lose contact with the real-life business world, I reduced my working commitment to a part-time contract. Luckily, my employer agreed and supported my studies to a great extent by letting me design my work week flexibly, based on lectures, exams, and other assignments. This is one of the reasons why I am currently still working in the same company. The Frankfurter Bankgesellschaft (Deutschland AG) provides private wealth management for the German market and I am part of the sales management team.
The 3-day-model offered by Frankfurt School is a brilliant opportunity to combine the advantages of practical work experience, excellent academic education, and enjoyable student life.
2020 has been a crazy year for all of us. When COVID struck, I was in the middle of my exchange semester in Bogotá, Colombia. Besides traveling around one of the most beautiful countries I have ever seen, this experience was an absolute success in terms of getting to know interesting people and improving my Spanish. However, the nice part of this experience obviously came to an end when all borders were closed and the lockdown was announced.
Once I made it back to Frankfurt, the Masters’ thesis was the last challenge of my academic career at Frankfurt School. Finally, in September, I graduated from the MiM that I had started two years earlier.
During this time, I have met truly wonderful people, both in peers and FS staff, learned from some of the best professors and I had the unique chance to become part of the FS family. I am grateful to my employer for making this possible and to Frankfurt School for granting me the opportunity to make this life-changing experience. During these two years, I learned what it means to learn and work in groups with international students. I learned to organise my time and to combine working and studying simultaneously. I learned what it means to work for an employer that cares about you – and to study at a university that gives everything to provide its students with the very best German education has to offer.
At this point, I would like to say thank you for all the extraordinary effort Frankfurt School staff has put in to make this experience possible for me!
