Frankfurt School Career Day – my journey from applicant to representative

Mastering varied tasks in different subject areas, being one step ahead of the customer, identifying new solutions with new ideas and in-depth analyses – that’s what makes the consultancy job in the Skillbase “Finance & Risk” (F&R) at zeb interesting for me.
Finance & Risk represents the various aspects of overall bank management: from accounting standards to interest rate risk management, zeb consultants from the Skillbase F&R help customers to develop and implement sustainable solutions.
Analytical skills are particularly in demand for projects in F&R.This means that an above average degree in an economic or mathematics-oriented degree course is helpful. Being able to structure complex tasks clearly and especially to act in a solution oriented way are among the basic requirements for consultants.Solutions are in most cases developed together with colleagues. Therefore, a willingness to cooperate and successful communication are other important characteristics a consultant needs to have.
My business mathematics degree has helped me to gain the necessary analytical skills I need in everyday consultancy when solving problems. Specifically, the knowledge from practical courses in the field of finance and econometrics helps me with many tasks in relation to the customer. Gaining initial experiences in banking and consultancy whilst still studying has facilitated my job entry into consultancy significantly. Involvement in associations within and outside of university and my semester abroad in Singapore served to improve my social skills, as well as being good preparation for the proactive approach to the job as a consultant at zeb.
Overall, your studies can be seen as the basis for your day-to-day work as a consultant. Many skills are gradually developed and expanded in consultancy, so it is an important prerequisite to continue to educate yourself and to improve.Yet it is precisely this aspect that offers the opportunity of a steep learning curve and interesting development paths.
