It has been exactly one year since I moved to Frankfurt. Looking back over this time, it truly is astonishing to see how one can discover so much about life and grow in so many ways in such a short amount of time.
From a young age, I was interested in studying abroad and meeting people from all parts of the world. Driven by this enthusiasm, I studied in the UK, Turkey, and Germany, worked in the US, and visited many countries. During my exchange semester in Berlin in 2017, I was impressed by how punctual and organized the German population is, and I thought I would like to return someday. After my bachelor studies, I started working in the banking sector and gained experience in both commercial and retail banking. Long hours spent in the office paying dividends, but as it often happens in life, a catalyst was needed to set plans into motion. 2020 was the year that made me realize I needed to chase after my dreams and be proactive about making them a reality. That is when Frankfurt School (FS) came to play.
The Master in Management (MiM) programme immediately stood out to me not only for offering relevant content and specialized concentrations but also for enabling students to constantly challenge themselves through group projects and individual assignments. Following the application process, I was honoured to receive a spot in the MiM Class of 2022. My life in Frankfurt was about to begin.
Since the start of the program, being surrounded by like-minded people with set ambitions and goals has made me strive for my absolute best. Empowered by this mindset, I began creating a place for myself in Germany.
I searched through various job adverts, and although I did not yet speak German, I decided to try myself out on the job market. Shortly after, I started working my first job here, at a local German consultancy company on a SME Digitalization project. I came across this opportunity in one of the FS WhatsApp groups, which showed a great sign of cooperation among the FS community. Additionally, to improve my German skills and expand my visibility in the job market, I’ve been attending the German language courses offered at Frankfurt School.
In November 2020, I participated in the Career Fair, an event organized yearly by Career Services at Frankfurt School to bring together students and industry leaders for a day of networking. That is where I found my current job as a working student at Bureau van Dijk, a Moody’s Analytics Company. Prior to my application, I had helpful one-on-one sessions with the Career Services team to prepare the best-fitting CV and motivational letter.
After one year in Frankfurt, I’ve realized that this land is full of opportunities for those who want to take advantage of them. I am more than curious to see how Frankfurt School and life in Germany will shape my future and bring new perspectives, both personally and professionally.
